ENGLAND’S EURO FIXTURES AT THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP 2024 TOURNAMENT
Gareth Southgate and his England troops are already preparing for the 2024 European Championship. The exciting tournament will take place in Germany in the middle of 2024.
Having lost in the final of the last Euros, England are looking to go one better in the 17th edition of the Euro Championships. In this in-depth guide, we check out the England Euro fixtures and see why the Three Lions are one of the top contenders for the 2024 Championship.
ENGLANDS JOPURNEY IN THE 2024 EUROPEAN FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
With the Euros fixtures announced, now is a good time to check out England’s opponents in the group stage. The Three Lions have been drawn into Group C alongside Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia.
Major tournaments have no easy games, but the English are the strong favourites to win the group. Finishing in the top two will be enough to progress through to the knockout phase of the 2024 European football tournament.
England have a good record in the group stage of previous Euros. They last failed to reach the knockouts at the 2000 tournament in Belgium and Holland. Their best finish at a Euro Championship came in the last one, as Southgate’s men reached the final of the Euro Championship of 2020.
England get their 2024 competition up and running with a matchup against Serbia at Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen on 16th June. It will be the first-ever competitive matchup between the two nations. However, they did meet in a friendly in Leicester in 2003, with the Three Lions running out 2-1 winners.
Four days after their opener, England are back in action when they travel to Frankfurt to face Denmark. This will arguably be England’s toughest test in Group C.
The two countries know each other well, having faced off three times over the past few years. The most recent meeting came in the European Championship 2020 semi-final. England’s 55-year wait to reach a major tournament final came to an end as they beat the Danes at Wembley Stadium.
England’s third and final group game will be on 25th June, as Southgate takes his men to the beautiful city of Cologne to play Slovenia. It will be the first game between the two since a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in 2017, which England edged 1-0. The English have an excellent overall record against the Slovenians.
