England – Participating Teams in the Euro Football 2024 Tournament

England are one of the participating teams in the upcoming 2024 European Championship, and Gareth Southgate’s men are ready to impress on the pitch. With a remarkable football history and a talented squad, England have the potential to go all the way in this year’s Euro Cup.

In this extensive overview, we explore England’s journey to the tournament, analyse their expected performances in Germany, and highlight key players to watch during the exciting competition. Join us as we take a closer look at the English national team and their preparations for this year’s European Championship event.

The English Football Team in the Euro Football Tournament

England are back in the European Championship after qualifying with ease. Despite winning the World Cup way back in 1966, the English national team has never lifted the European Championship trophy. Can Southgate’s class of 2024 change that surprising stat?

England will have one of the strongest squads in the Euro finals, and the Three Lions will be looking to go far on German soil. They reached the final of the last Euro Championship in 2021, losing out to Italy in a penalty shootout at Wembley Stadium.

England also reached the last four on home turf back in 1996. They lost to rivals Germany at Wembley, with Southgate missing the decisive penalty in the shootout.

Even though England have never won this event, they head to Germany as one of the tournament favourites. Many nations will fear the English throughout the tournament, and England are certainly one of the teams to beat in the 2024 Euro Championship.

England were one of the top seeds and were drawn into Group C, where they will face Denmark, Serbia, and Slovenia. There are no easy games in major football tournaments, but the Three Lions should have no problems reaching the knockout phase in Germany.

The top two will automatically qualify for the Round of 16, while third place will be enough for four nations. England will be targeting nine points from a possible nine in Group C.

Southgate’s troops get their Football 2024 Euro Championship campaign up and running with a game against Serbia at Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen. It will be the first competitive meeting between the two nations, though the English did beat Serbia 2-1 in a friendly match in Leicester back in 2003.

Next up on the 2024 Euro Championship calendar is a tough-looking game against Denmark on June 20th. Like England, the Danes have been on the rise in recent years, and they will no doubt be England’s toughest opponents in Group C.

This will be the first fixture between the nations since they locked horns at the 2020 Euro Championships. They squared off in a thrilling semi-final at Wembley, with England edging it in extra time. Harry Kane’s goal in the 104th minute put England through to their first-ever Euro final.

England’s third and final Group C matchup will see them travel to Cologne to face Slovenia. The English could already be through to the last 16 by the time they take on the Slovenians at RheinEnergieStadion, but they will be the strong favourites, nonetheless.

The meeting in Cologne will be the first matchup between the pair since the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. England picked up four points on the way to Russia, drawing in Ljubljana and securing a narrow 1-0 victory on home soil.

England may be huge favourites to finish in the top two of Group C, but the Three Lions will still need to do a professional job in the early stages of the German tournament. If they can get past Serbia in game one, the right result against the Danes should do the trick. A top-three place could be enough, but England are looking to win Group C without much fuss.

England’s Road to the European Championship 2024

England qualified for the Euro Championships for the 11th time by winning their qualifying group with ease. Southgate’s side finished at the summit of Group C with 20 points to their name.

They were unbeaten throughout the qualifying campaign, picking up six wins and drawing twice. England netted a staggering 22 goals in eight games, shipping just four at the other end.

With Italy and Ukraine also in the group, finishing in the top two and securing an automatic qualification spot was far from a formality. North Macedonia and Malta were the other nations in Group C.

England got their qualification campaign up and running with a stunning away victory against Italy. They got revenge for their 2020 European Championship final defeat, securing a deserved 2-1 win in Naples. Declan Rice and Harry Kane got the goals at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

England followed up the Italy win with a triumph over Ukraine at Wembley Stadium. Over 83,000 watched a comfortable 2-0 victory, with Kane and Bukayo Saka on the scoresheet.

England then picked up two easy wins, beating Malta 4-0 away from home and hammering North Macedonia 7-0 at Old Trafford in Manchester. Kane continued his fine form in front of goal, scoring in both matches.

England dropped their first points of the campaign with a 1-1 draw with Ukraine in Wroclaw. However, Southgate’s superstars bounced back with a stunning 3-1 win against the Italians at Wembley, which sent the Three Lions through to the 2024 European Championship finals.

England ended a positive qualifying campaign with a win over Malta and a 1-1 draw with North Macedonia in Skopje. Kane finished as the group’s top scorer with eight goals, while Arsenal’s Saka impressed by helping himself to four goals in qualifying Group C. Overall, it was another comfortable qualifying campaign for the English.

England’s Star Players in the Team

England have a star-studded squad and a whole host of players who can change a game at the drop of a hat. On paper, the Three Lions arguably have the strongest squad in the 2024 Championships.

Harry Kane is England’s skipper, and the Bayern Munich ace is ready to lead by example in Germany. Kane, who scored eight goals in qualifying, is enjoying a stunning first season in Germany with Munich.

Throughout his England career, Kane has scored several vital goals, and he will be key for England in the summer. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker is likely to be England’s main man in the Euro Championship in 2024.

Jude Bellingham is already a superstar, and the Real Madrid ace has become one of the first names on the team sheet for club and country. Despite his young age, England will be depending on him this summer, and Bellingham is sure to light up the tournament for the English fans.

Phil Foden is another exciting player who could have a big impact in Germany. The Manchester City ace is only 23 but already has over 30 caps for the senior side. He was part of the England squad for the last two major tournaments, and Foden could be crucial for his country in 2024.

Southgate has an abundance of talent to choose from in midfield. The likes of Bukayo Saka and Jack Grealish will provide a goal threat, while Declan Rice, who has impressed since his big-money move to Arsenal, presents a calm head in the middle of the park. Jordan Henderson, Kalvin Phillips, and Conor Gallagher are more solid midfield options.

England are also covered in defence. Kyle Walker has been outstanding for Man City this term, and the right-back has all the experience in the world when it comes to international football. Kieran Trippier and John Stones could also be fighting for places in the side.

Southgate has options in goal, but Jordan Pickford has been his go-to goalkeeper in recent times. The Everton stopper rarely lets his nation down, and Pickford is likely to be England’s No. 1 goalkeeper in Germany.

England’s Chances of Winning the 2024 European Championship

England are right up there when it comes to European Championship tournament favourites. They went incredibly close in the last European Championship, and 2024 could be their time to shine.

England should progress to the knockout phase with ease. If they win Group C, the Three Lions will face one of the best third-place teams in the Round of 16. The tournament will come to life after that, but the English will fear no foe in their quest to become European champions for the first time.

The likes of Germany, France, Spain, and Portugal, who have all won this competition before, will be formidable opponents, but England have as good a chance as anyone in this Euro Championship.
